Searching our database of old photos Searching via Home Page search facility: Type in a key word in the space provided. A search is then conducted for that word in titles and descriptions of all images in the catalogue. These will then appear for viewing. For example, when typing in the word 'bridge',all entries with the word 'bridge' in the title will appear (eg., Princes Bridge, Melbourne), as well as all entries with the word 'bridge' in the description (eg., This image shows the bridge across the Yarra river at Punt Road..........) Searching via Home Page category facility:
Selection of 'Location' brings up the sub categories of the states of Australia as well as Australia - Unkown and Foreign. Further selection of one of the states will then provide a listing of all the images in that state in alphabetical order. Scrolling down the page will then enable selection of particular images. For example, to locate Croydon, Victoria, select 'Location', 'Victoria' and then scroll down until Croydon is located. However, the search facility, above, may be faster. A similar procedure is followed when searching for a theme after selection of 'Theme', or original images for sale under 'Original Images'. Other search tips: -
The search function is not case sensitive. For example, melbourne or Melbourne may be used. -
The key word may produce results from more than one category. For example the key word Brighton could produce a result for Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland and South Australia if images for those localities are in the catalogue. -
If searching for particular year dates or decades, entering 1920 will reveal all entries under 1920s as well as those for the year 1920. Entering 1920s will reveal 'No match'. However, entering the locality as well as the year will reveal 'No match', even though entries exist. For example entries exist for Apollo Bay (title) with 1920s in description. A search for 'Apollo Bay 1920' reveals 'No match'. Search under 'Apollo Bay' or '1920', preferably 'Apollo Bay'.

To isolate one word from others
in a search or to isolate a word from part of a larger word, use: space
followed by the word then another space. For example, when searching for the
word Wood (which appears in many town names such as Woodend and Woodside), use
space followed by Wood then space. back to Home page |
